The true story of Germany's most famous anti-Nazi heroine, Sophie Scholl, the fearless activist of the underground student resistance group, The White Rose. The last six days of Sophie Scholl's life is dramatized, from arrest to interrogation, trial, and sentence in 1943 Munich. Unwavering in her convictions and loyalty to her comrades, her cross-examination by the Gestapo quickly escalates into a searing test of wills as Scholl delivers a passionate call to freedom and personal responsibility that is both haunting and timeless.

The ending of a small group of German students, whose mission was to call the Nazis what they were -- murderers. In the words of Hannah Arendt, it would be better for the German people today if more such stories could be told. Sophie Scholl is also one of the few depictions of typical Germans during the war, who either did not want to believe the group's message, or did not care. I could talk about fine writing and brave performances, but this is one of those rare films where the conventions dissolve, and the audience finds itself watching life.

Compelling docu-drama. A horror story. Young university students who should have been the country's future progressive government are caught up in the vicious mess that was the Nazi regime. Doomed right from the beginning by their principles, Based on the actual interrogation documents

This is a 2005 German historical drama directed by Marc Rothemund, based on the true story of Germany's most famous anti-Nazi heroine, Sophie Scholl---the fearless activist of the underground student resistance group, The White Rose.
Sophia was convicted of high treason after having been found distributing anti-war leaflets at the University of Munich with her brother Hans.
As a result, they were both executed by guillotine.
Sophie was the daughter of the liberal politician Robert Scholl, an ardent critic of the Nazis.
He was mayor of Ingersheim 1917–1920, mayor of Forchtenberg 1920–1930 and lord mayor of Ulm 1945–1948, and co-founded the All-German People's Party in 1952.
Following her death, a copy of the sixth leaflet was smuggled out of Germany through Scandinavia to the UK by German jurist Helmuth James Graf von Moltke.
Then it was used by the Allied Forces and in mid-1943, they dropped over Germany millions of propaganda copies of the tract, now retitled "The Manifesto of the Students of Munich."
The film is a gripping, emotionally-engaging docu-drama.

Not the most exciting movie but overall interesting. Nothing really happens in this movie, the first hour is just an interrogation and then not much more. Also very hard to get emotional for Sophie as she is just a robot in the movie with next to no emotions. Overall nothing special and parts of it can be quite tedious.

Wow, Sophie is such a strong character and I love how she stood by her brother. It frightens me that Hungary has just slipped back into a National Socialist government. They have anti-semitic protests in their streets and they force Romanians to leave their families to work in the People's fields. Maybe if they hadn't stopped school field trips to their holocaust museums this wouldn't have happened. Maybe if they would promote movies like Sophie Scholl they'd realize how fast the morals and justice in a socialist society fall. Sophie's idea for freedom and governance by our God given conscience did not fail. She did not die in vain. Enjoy eternity Sophie!
