The mild-mannered Reverend Stephen Babbington choked on his cocktail and died. No trace of poison could be found, as Poirot had forecast, but more disturbingly no motive could be ascertained either.

For a Poirot book, he's barely in it which isn't ideal but it would be bearable if the other characters were at least like-able. Unfortunately you don't get to know the other characters very well and the story does not particularly stand out among the other Poirot novels. Parts of the plot were too similar to 'Lord Edgeware Dies' in my opinion.

Far too little Poirot; far too much the discreet gentleman Satterthwaite. "Egg" is just too silly a toddler's nickname to live on to adulthood.

Once again Hercule Poirot's grey matter rises above the rest. Lots of possibilities and characters to love and/or despise.

Well worth reading.
