The main character is not easy to warm up to, and unlike Sookie Stackhouse, she is not someone I'd like to meet. It is a good story, but not as engaging as one would hope.

Although Charlaine's writing is much more entertaining now, this is well written and the story flows well. A very good early effort and still easy to read.

I think this is the first book written by Charlaine Harris. Tame, but a well written story and enjoyable.

Not as engrossing as Charlaine Harris' later works. Also, the motive for the killings was a bit lame. Perhaps the lameness of the motive is a result of the date of the book or the fact that it's set in a southern state, but I just didn't really find it all that convincing.
