Wow, this one is pretty different than Georgette Heyer's other books! There's no crazy stuff happening, and it's a lot calmer. It's so real life/homey-feeling. It's not about 2 people in love, so much, as 2 people who are kind of thrust together and become really great friends. At first, I was pretty sad because I didn't like to think of Adam marrying some girl he didn't even find attractive, and when he was still in love with Julia. By the way, this is a pet peeve of mine because of course my name is Julia, but anyone named Julia in fiction usually ends up being spoiled and annoying or downright wicked. Anyway, it was kind of a heartbreaking read at times. I still felt a bit unsatisfied at the ending and wished it could have gone longer. I definitely recommend reading this one, but I do feel that it struck me more since I've been married and had children. As I said earlier, it's more of a quiet book, and focuses on things like pregnancy sickness and money, obligations, personal quirks ... Also, she has a good deal of stuff about Wellington and the war against Napoleon, which I know is dear to her heart. I am definitely rambling on here, but the bottom line is, if you like a slow, true to life, heartwarming romance, read this one.

I love this one!! I think perhaps this one is my favorite out of all of Georgette Heyer's. Even more than The Grand Sophy, which I absolutely adored. Adam was somewhat a wimp in several parts and I got pretty angry at him, but everything worked out in the end. Jenny is such a sweetheart! And I looooooved the Jane Austen references! :)
