Tragedy has struck His Majesty's Aerial Corps, as an epidemic of unknown origin and no known cure is decimating the dragons' ranks. Only Temeraire and a pack of newly recruited dragons remain uninfected and must stand as the only means of airborne defense against France's ever bolder sorties. As Bonaparte's dragons harrow Britain's ships, Temeraire and his captain, Will Laurence, take wing to Africa in search of a cure for the deadly contagion.

Definitely terrible compared to the author's other works.

This book was so much fun; from a rather depressing start we get taken on a trip to Africa with tribes and their dragons! Very imaginative. This is one of my favorites in the series so far. The characters are growing and evolving. To my delight the author, Naomi Novik, has added the most comedy yet to her writing in this one. In certain parts of the book, the dragons provide some brief comic relief which I found very refreshing.

Naomi Novik just keeps getting better. Love her alternate Africa! If only there'd been dragons like Temeraire, our whole sorry world would have been better. Can't believe how addictive this series is.

Dragged a bit in the middle, but still very interesting and fun.

I think the first book and this one are tied for my favourite of the series. This one spent much less time focusing on the travel aspect of the journey and more on the action. It had more emotion and a greater goal for their journey. It brought up some interesting issues of the dragon/historical world. I think I read this the fastest of all the books as it kept me wanting to read and read! Very good!
