This is the story of a secret, and also a secret story. This is the story of Cass and Max-Ernest, two friendless 11-year olds who come together to solve the mystery surrounding a dead magician and the clues he left behind. When they find a mysterious case containing vials of liquid labeled The Symphony of Smells with an encoded message asking for help, they decide to investigate. Along the way they must solve puzzles and word games and face incredible danger to answer their questions. They encounter the dark and looming Dr. L and his seemingly ageless accomplice, Ms. Mauvais, who have kidnapped one of their classmates in a desperate attempt to unlock the secrets of immortality.

This Books's Name Is Secret by Raphael Simon Pseudonymous Bosch is the first book in The Secret Series. The book is about two kids named Cassandra (Cass) and Max-Ernest who are trying to find about a recent house fire in their neighborhood. After poking around the house, they find an underground room from which, they find the "victim's" notebook/journal. The series was amazing and I have never seen something alike to this series except maybe the continuation of it, The Bad Series.
I read the books online and they had illustrations every chapter. It showed the setting, and at least one of the characters. I didn't like the way the characters were drawn in the book, because they looked a bit like stick figures, but that's only my opinion.
I really did like the book otherwise and I started reading the second one a minute after I finished the first. There wasn't any "violent" scenes which I kinda liked, but there was some fighting, which balanced in out. One thing that I found annoying was when, around the middle of the book, the author stops writing and the reader (me) has to bribe him with chocolate. Anyways, I hope you read this book and enjoy it!

5/5 Stars. I really enjoyed this book. The writing is very good and the storyline is unique. This story is very funny but dark at the same time. I read and enjoyed this book when I was only 11 and I still enjoy it now that I am 15. My only complaint about this book would be the beginning; the story is very slow and seemingly boring at the beginning and takes a little bit for the plot to thicken, but once it does this book is nearly impossible to put down. I would recommend this book to anyone and tell them that while the beginning of the book may give you a bad impression, it gets really exciting and interesting.

I think Pseudonymous writes like he's talking to you, which is how I write an essay sometimes. I like this author and I'm reading the fifth book now. I think Cass jumps a bit too much too conclusions, but hey, that's what makes Cass Cass. And Max-Ernest just drones on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and on and... oops. You get the idea.
Max-Ernest's parents are... wierd. They split their house down the middle, and that puts Max-Ernest under some stress. Wow. I'm looking back at my comment and I'm realizing it is reeeeeeeeeaaaaally long. Maybe I should stop.

Cass and Max-ernsest. Literally complete opposites but at the same time, friends. When I first saw my classmate read this, I thought to myself; "maybe I should read this. And I thought right!

though this book was not as good as the other books in this series, its a good kickstarter to this funny, spellbinding, and adventurous series

This was okay, but nothing spectacular. It was basically Lemony Snicket without the downer endings. The story was interesting, but the asides interrupted the flow too much. Including synesthesia was a good twist, but not enough to redeem this one. I don't think I'll read the rest of the series.

My 11 year old read this book in 3 days with great interest. He thought the story was so-so, but the author's commentary addressed to the reader was hilarious and added to the novelty of the book.

This is the first in The Secret Series. This was a breezy quick read. There are lots of odd characters can many can connect to or enjoy to hate. I enjoyed the author's humorous voice throughout, warning us from reading this book, causing us to second guess what he is really writing about and rewriting the work as we read along. I also found it interesting to learn about the condition of synesthesia. Recommended for readers who like adventure and mystery.
