Bit of a disappointment. Lauded as THE BEST Hamlet on screen,Kozintsev's vision offers stark black and white imagery, a harsh medieval landscape , and highly stylized costumes and choreographed movement. However, the frequently somnambulent line readings, and some theatrical, unintentionally comic reaction shots give it the air of a museum piece. Smoktunovskiy is a great Hamlet, but there's no one else worth watching. Branagh, Olivier, Adrian Lester, or even David Tennant's versions are overall more enjoyable.
