Vastly superior to any other sci fi tv fare and yet it only lasted one season. Recommended for the quality of the cast and the production-special effects are ala Dr. Who but the story line carries the episodes despite the sometime cheesy special effects. Capt. Kirk got cancelled once too but then got resurrected thanks to strong studio support, alas Serenity had no white knight. Our loss.

Repeat of others... Best. Show. Ever. So sad it's over, but at least they made the movie, Serenity, which finally explains the Reavers. There's also the graphic novels to check out next.

The Firefly series is awesome. If you have ever wondered what it would be like to fly with smuggler Han Solo in the Millenium Falcon, just watch this series, this is as close of an answer as you will get.

Unfortunately this series was short lived due to several factors: Producers in FOX poor handling (poor promotion, aired out of order, etc.), it was a bit expensive to produce, and did not attract as many viewers as expected (at the time). It was a "late bloomer", a la Breaking Bad, Office Space...

If you are a true Sci Fi genre fanatic, you will love this series.

It is the second highest rated Sci-Fi Series with at least 1000 votes in IMDb: 9.2/10 (141,996 users); just behind an animated series.

Try it, it is a short Series, it was on the air only 1 season, and there is a sequel to the series, a film called Serenity.

Just like Deadwood shut down by HBO for being too smart/GREAT...This is another masterpiece of a tv show that was cancelled. This time by the geniuses at Fox. Firefly is in the top series ever. Even if only for 1 season. @Blue...It was cancelled because american audiences have become too dumb for many great things: Movies, books, films, tv shows. So Fox promoted it wrong to appeal to the dumb. It then showed it out of order thinking the first episode was too dramatic and smart for the dumb. This led to the show not being seen that much, and then Fox not wanting to invest in something smart knowing full well it would not be appreciated by the masses..which is mainly made up of dumb. GREAT show. Borrow it, Rent it, buy it, see it. Revel in a GREAT show.

My son turned me on to this popular series. Never saw it when it first aired. It is even referenced on "Big Bang Theory". Unlike another commentator I enjoy the Space Science Fiction and Frontier Western amalgamation. Makes it fresh unlike Star Trek who stole a lot of their plot lines from Red Dwarf anyway. The doctor's sister gets a bit tiresome but otherwise the characters are engaging and entertaining. Great theme music too.

BRING BACK FIREFLY!!!!! This T.V series literally changed my view on sci-fi and other types of T.V shows. River Tam and Captain Reynolds (Summer Glau and Nathan Fillion) are my favourite characters and amazing on screen!!! - as well as the rest of the crew. Firefly ftw and Joss Whedon :D

Best show ever on TV. Imagination, heart -- and the dialogue! The words just sparkle. It is amazing.

I finally got around to watching this - after years of being battered about it by friends. It really is great, despite my inherent dislike of Nathan Fillion (it's unjustifiable, I can't explain why I don't like him, I just do. Same with Pierce Brosnan). But I love the merging of the sci-fi and Western genres (even if in some cases it doesn't make sense) for this space opera style show.

Joss Whedon is a gem, and for some reason, networks keep cancelling his shows. Hard sci-fi nerds will have to let go of their requirement that everything is high-tech, but hopefully they can have an appreciation for the stylistic approach of merging these two genres, and how well Whedon found commonality between what would seemingly be opposites.
