I read the first 60 pages or so of this book, waiting for any of the characters to be appealing or likable, and then I gave up. Some of the writing feels like the author is trying a bit too hard to be clever, and the characters come across as caricatures. I found the jealousy and petty competition upon which all of the relationships seem to be based a little depressing. Perhaps I gave up too quickly or perhaps I just haven’t been in the mood for a satirical look at dysfunctional women’s friendships. Most likely I just prefer books that celebrate women’s friendships as I know them – supportive, deep, and empowering.
