Funny, offbeat saga. B-grade, struggling café run by hardworking guy Zinos in modern day Hamburg. First half features his sad-sack operation turning out uninspired 'cuisine' consumed by decidedly non-gourmet clientele. But watch the rollicking 2nd half when his jail-bird brother and a crazed new chef come through the door. Reversal of fortunes along with upbeat music, a bit of 'food porn' and crowds turn his business around.
Especially liked watching the extra feature on the making of this film. Introduced me to the acting chops of several young/mature German actors and directors unknown to most American audiences.

A fun indie movie, kind of charming.

I really liked Head On and The Edge of Heaven by this same director, but Soul Kitchen was a little too boys-will-be-boys for me.

Enjoyable comedy. Good characters. The brothers have good chemistry, and the chef is very funny.
