This is a Chinese historical drama directed by Chen Kaige.
It is a compelling tale of two lifelong friends unexpectedlly caught in a passionate love triangle with the woman who comes between both of them.
In the background, the film explores the effect of China's political turmoil during the mid-20th century on the lives of individuals, families, and groups.
With vivid, shocking and provocative imagery throughout, it is an amazing and heart-wrenching drama of love and betrayal.
