For a silent-era film that is now 90 years old - Metropolis is certainly worth a view.

Visually captivating anime.
Profound theme of robot vs human values, but not quite a brilliant masterpiece. The focus more on boy-meets-girl and thwarting the villain's dastardly plans.
Lacked strong emotional punch, considering its grand explosive presentation.

An all time classic sci- fi movie by Fritz Lang. It might seem slow by today's standards but it still bears watching.

Metropolis (from the silent-era) is a fantasy film about a futuristic city and its mechanized society, with an upper-class youth abandoning his life of luxury in order to join the oppressed workers in an all-out revolt.

Even though this film is on the long side - Startling set designs and impressive special effects are guaranteed to command the full attention from even the most jaded of viewers.

This 1927 film is definitely worth a view for any Sci-Fi fan. (*Be sure to watch the videos included here*)

With Metropolis (1927) being from the "silent-era" of film, I was initially quite sceptical about watching it, certain that I wouldn't enjoy it half as much as I did.

Regardless of how idiotic silent-screen actors can carry on sometimes, with their goofy, over-the-top histrionics, it was Metropolis' startling sets, its amazing mob scenes, and, especially, its fantastic robot (yes, it was female and like one you've never seen before) that all but made up for this somewhat annoying aspect of the film.

Impressively directed by German film-maker, Fritz Lang, Metropolis (now 87 years old) is a visionary masterpiece that depicts a futuristic society dominated by a soulless feudal system.

In this cold world of Metropolis, the wealthy technocrats live in sumptuous luxury, housed inside towering palaces. While at the foot of these gleaming structures the "slave-labour class" toils away, thanklessly and endlessly.

Yes. Metropolis is heavy going at times, but one certainly can't argue with its awesome special effects (for its time) and the elaborate set designs that command attention throughout.... (*Watch trailer video-clip*)

In 10 years time (2026) the silent-era, Sci-Fi, classic, Metropolis will be 100 years old - And by sheer coincidence the year 2026 is also the same date in which this film's story is set.

If nothing else - I think that it's interesting to see (through the eyes of the film Metropolis) how (100 years into the future) man's world was perceived to be.

Over the last 15 years - I have watched this picture 3 times - And I do have to agree with others, that without its incredible set designs and the presence of one of the most fantastic robots imaginable, Metropolis would, pretty much, be a very ordinary and, yes, humdrum production.

But, with that said - From a purely historical point of view - I do recommend this film to one, and all.

(*Be sure to watch "robot" video-clip*)

Great animation - our "AstroBoy" creator has come a long way.
Tensions are high in Metropolis because human workers are being replaced bu robots and revolt is in the air. Corporate kingpin seeks to extend his claws further in the underbelly of city governance and worker's rights rabble rousers.

I had hoped that this was the restored full-length version, but disappointingly it was the old print with some new music and color. Enjoyable, nonetheless.

Once you get used to seeing characters with glassy, big eyes you may begin to enjoy some of the animation. However, as far as storyline goes, it is uneven and often incoherent. I think the film is overrated. A better script writer could have made the film far more engaging. Choice of subtitles or dubbed English dialogue.

In the year 2026, when the populace is divided between workers who must live underground and the wealthy, who enjoy a futuristic city of splendor, a man from the upper class abandons his privileged life to join oppressed workers in a revolt. Perhaps the most famous and influential of all silent films, German director Fritz Lang's masterpiece has now been magnificently restored to include the original 1927 orchestral score.
