A must read book, from an amazingly brave woman Fawzia Koofi.

After reading the book you will look at Afghan men differently. How can they treat other humans this way.

Certainly, this book ranks in the top five books I have read, for societal importance. Happened upon it as I was leaving the library and felt drawn to it. I am so glad I did. I have a deeper understanding of the women of the Middle East and an awestruck respect for the author, specifically. An amazing book. A must-read for all women.

You should read this book if: you are interested in other cultures; you are a woman; you are curious about Afghanistan; you wonder whether international aid and/or opinion makes a difference; you want inspiration about what one person or one family can do.

A good book documenting the author's challenges growing up as a female in Afghanistan. Also provides a good overview of political history and conflict in Afghanistan since the 1970's. It helps to put some context to many of the items that come across the news media about that country. It is difficult to believe and understand the challenges that women and people in general face in countries such as Afghanistan and it is somewhat disheartening in some ways to consider that this occurs in this day and age and elsewhere in the world. However, the book also emphasizes many of the positives of the culture and history of Afghanistan.

Excellent novel. A biography of a very inspirational, brave and intelligent Afghani woman. Every woman should read this book!

This book is a must read for all those interested in current conditions in Afghanistan, and its future prospects. Fawzia is running for president in 2014, so perhaps the future does hold good things for Afghanistan, and this incredibly brave woman.

Just saw Koofi being interviewed on breakfast TV. Incredible courage - lives with constant death threats as she tries to improve women's lives in Afghanistan.
