I really wanted to enjoy this book. The beginning was fairly intense and draws the reader in immediately; however, it never goes anywhere. The emotional environment never changes, and it gets old before too long. I skimmed through the middle chapters before finally giving up. I understand the grief of making wrong choices, but the choice he made in the beginning wasn't even necessary. It was frustrating and made me unsympathetic to his continuous internal lament. How long does the reader have to be dragged along to get the point? Certainly not worthy of an entire book. Sadly, it just seemed like a waste of time to me.

The selfishness of the characters in this book make it impossible to have any kind of sympathy for their situation. I did not enjoy this book at all.

This is a thoughtful an interesting book but not for those who enjoy external action. It is a story of a man who makes a horrible choice and must live with the consequences. It's a psychological ride but the plot doesn't really "go" anywhere.
