Excellent excellent

This is a mystery but not in any of the formulaic styles I am used to. I would say the mystery is secondary to telling the stories of the aging characters, their loves, hates, schemes, desires. We meet one child, herself with issues, but all the rest are long past childhood in years yet still locked into roles they assumed when young. Very dark story lines with little sunshine, even though the narrative takes place in the heat of summer in southern France. No one seemed really happy. The saving grace of this book is the writing, the drawing of compelling characters and the depiction of a full and rich sense of place.

An excellent thriller about betrayal from this great writer.

For plot, writing style, character development, Tremain is a 5 star writer. Characters in this novel are fascinating in their very human failings. Homosexuality, child abuse,
murder...all are handled expertly making for an unforgettable story. Appalling tragedies of family history and misguided love. Horrible and touching at the same time. Read it.

"A compelling murder mystery set in this ancient and mysterious part of France. Its themes of sibling love and hate, family dysfunction, ageing, and bitter envy, make it compulsive reading. Trespass is beautifully written with a terrific story and a wonderful sense of place."

Author doesn't need to make main characters of the book to be SO special to tell the story. It doesn't affect plot at all.
