An inspiring story of independence that follows two unlikely friends determined to face the world on their own terms. Young Michael is a patient who is resigned to his quiet life within an institution's safe, predictable boundaries. Then, the rebellious Rory O'Shea bursts onto the scene. Now, with the help of the beautiful young Siobhan, who sings on as the boys' live-in aide, Rory will show Michael what it takes to truly be free.

Although there have been many films revolving around disabled leads, few have succeeded with this much humour and humanity and even fewer actors have attained the level of credibility that McAvoy and Robertson manage to display—McAvoy registering elation or despair with his eyes and Robertson injecting each slurred line and body spasm with emotional intensity. Thankfully, director Damien O’Donnell doesn’t even know the meaning of pity as his characters rumble along in their electric chairs, either facing down members of a Benefits Board, vying for the attention of a blond care aide, or blowing a bucket of charity money at a local pub (“It’s funding for the needs of the disabled..” explains Rory to a scandalized Michael, “…I’m disabled and I need a drink”). A warm yet honest look at life as seen from a wheelchair, weaving laughs and tragedy into one of the year’s most unexpected pleasures.

One of the best movies I have seen. Surprising how great it was with the two lead characters in wheelchairs. Could not recommend it enough. Makes you laugh and it makes you cry. Absolutely fantastic!!

Good treatment of a potentially depressing subject. Solid acting by the three principles. A number of surprises made me laugh out loud. Worth viewing.

What a great movie! The acting is superb, especially since the movie takes place in Ireland but the leads are played by people born in Scotland or Hong Kong!
