This is not a genre that I would normally read. Post-apoptalitic stories are not my interest. But when I read the story line and read many of the reviews here on Goodreads, it struck my interest and I thought I would give it a read. I am glad that I followed my interest. Very glad.

The story line is well developed, drawing you in and keeping your interest throughout the whole story. Though it is futuristic, it captivating, intriguing, and very suspenseful. The authors keep the story alive continuously throughout the whole story. From the beginning you are drawn into the story and held captive to the story. The ending is quite well done, begging you, (better yet, setting you up) for the next book in the trilogy.

Without spoiling the story, the bases of the book is a civilization without emotions except fear. When some of the characters obtain emotions, the authors do a wonderful job explaining the experiences these people have never before experienced; emotions, beginning to feel and deal with their ups and downs. I found it quite intriguing the depth and detail these experiences were brought out to readers who have these emotions. This, in my opinion, made the story so believable and kept me going.

The characters are wonderfully developed. There faults and challenges, failures, doubts, success draw you into them, making them real. I would go onto say that this is quite an emotional book. Emotional in the sense of experiencing the complexities of emotions and feelings the characters deal with, are confounded by, and embrace while at the same time fear. You become engulfed in the story and the characters, making a wonderful story you just want to go with all the way.

This is a very interesting story plot, full of intrigue, plotting for power, assassination, cut throat politics, and all the other elements to provide a well written and interesting book. I highly recommend this book, and am off to start the second of the three.

Love Love Love this book! Ted Dekker and Tosca Lee did an amazing job writing this. I especially enjoyed the aspect of fantasy and the very interesting characters in this book. There was so much suspense and twists in the story that it made it impossible to put the book down! Overall this was a great read. :)

This was a pretty good book. The story was really interesting, filled with political intrigue and great characters. I could really get into the characters, and the villains were creepy and made me squirm more than once. My only criticism is that the writing style is repetitive, but aside from that, it was well-written.

Wow! The characters are so relatable and even saric was humanized well enough for one to have sympathy for him. Jonothan was so innocent and childlike but yet so wise! So many plot twists. The only complaint I have is that mortal doesn't come out until may.
