An old film but a great one. Very cleverly done with excellent acting. A Letter to Three Wives is a 1949 American romantic drama film which tells the story of a woman who mails a letter to three women, telling them she has left town with the husband of one of them. It stars Jeanne Crain, Linda Darnell, Ann Sothern, Kirk Douglas, Paul Douglas in his film debut, Jeffrey Lynn, and Thelma Ritter. An uncredited Celeste Holm provides the voice of Addie Ross, the unseen woman who wrote the titular letter.

The movie was adapted by Vera Caspary and Joseph L. Mankiewicz from Letter to Five Wives, a 1946 novel by John Klempner, which had appeared in Cosmopolitan.[1] It was directed by Mankiewicz, who directed All About Eve the following year.

The film won the Academy Awards for Best Director and Best Writing, Screenplay and was nominated for Best Picture. WHEN A FILM IS STILL REMEMBERED AND MAKES AN IMPACT AFTER VIEWIT IT 40 YEARS AGO, IT IS A MOVIE THAT STANDS OUT!!!! FOUR PAWS UP FROM ABBY TABBY AND KRISTI. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

The words for this movie are deliciously DELECTABLE!! Script, direction and acting are all top-notch.Whoever did the casting deserves accolades. One of the few movies to use the amazing, hilarious Thelma Ritter!

Linda Darnell is fantastic. I spent 2 hrs saturated in this lady. The special feature about her was heart breaking. Great movie.

Interestingly (?), this movie is based on a 1940's novel titled "A Letter to Five Wives."

Don't be put off by the cover, this isn't a sappy 'chick flick'. The acting and writing are top notch. Although no crime is commited (per se), this plays like a whodunnit that you'll be sure to enjoy.
