There are better DG's available--see Siepi, Keenlyside, or D'Arcangelo. Christopher Maltman is a fine lieder singer but does not convince in a heavy dramatic role. And who came up with the idea of a forest set--it makes most of the story ridiculous!

Opera's boring? This DG is athletic (w. 6-pack ab), darkly comic, euro-erotic updated to the age of cellphones, designer-duds n' drugs. Simply yet smartly staged, expertly conducted/choreographed, and edited from a live performance (forget Britney, Gaga & Madonna). Great ensemble of youthful singers/actors who gave more psychological depth to their characters than other DGs. Check out the classically-correct Don Giovanni dir. by Joseph Losey with Te Kanawa, Ruggiero Raimondi, Teresa Berganza et.al.
