Two of my favourite songs on this 1969 offering from the Rolling Stones are "Gimme Shelter" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want".
Originally released back in December, 1969 - "Let It Bleed" would be the Rolling Stones' 8th studio album. This album is considered, by many, to be one of the Rolling Stones' best offerings, ever.
Believe it, or not - This particular album was so popular, at the time, that sales for it soared so high on the record charts that it actually demoted the Beatles' "Abbey Road" album for a few very critical weeks.
This album is also noteworthy due to it being the very last Rolling Stones' record where guitarist, Brian Jones would appear as part of the group's musical line-up. Before this album was officially released - Brian Jones would already be dead, found drowned in his own swimming pool.
Out of "Let It Bleed's" nine tracks, 2 of my all-time favourites are - Gimme Shelter, and You Can't Always Get What You Want (*Be sure to watch video*).
Great album, but the disc is damaged. The last two tracks skip. So be forewarned...
After Exile on Main Street, this is the greatest Rolling Stones album. It truly is one of the all time greats. Nobody has recorded a more powerful version of Robert Johnson's Love in Vain. Richard's guitar and Jaggar's vocals kill this song. Midnight Rambler is a masterpiece. The entire album from start to finish rocks!
The Rolling Stones made many masterpiece albums, but maybe the best was "Let It Bleed". Who ever is responsible for adding Merry Clayton to the song "Let It Bleed" was a genius. Our grandchildren will be playing the Rolling Stones albums. Hopefully, "Let It Bleed" will never go out of print!
Anyone who loves Gimme Shelter, as I do, also should watch the documentary "20 Feet From Stardom" for the account of how Merry Clayton came to provide the memorable background vocal.
One of the ten best Stones albums in my book! "Gimme Shelter" is a masterpiece, and the epic "You Can't Always Get What You Want" (with a classical choir no less) is simply a joy. A must listen for Stone fans!
