This memoir by the author, one of the most pre-eminent journalists of our time, is told in a straightforward and conversational manner; you hear his distinctive voice on every page. He has won every prestigious journalism award in his distinguished career, and discusses all the big stories from his decades of reporting. This very personal accounting includes (but is certainly not limited to) his dismissal from CBS, the Abu Ghraib story, the George W. Bush Air National Guard controversy, his coverage of the JFK assassination, the origin of "Hurricane Dan" as well as inside stories about all the top personalities he has either interviewed or worked with over his remarkable career. The book also includes his thoughts and reflections on the state of journalism today and what he sees for its future, as well as never-before-revealed personal observations and commentary.

“Dan Rather and the problem with patriotism: Steps toward the redemption of American journalism and democracy” from: . . . .

Feb 15, 2015

To see why I truly despise Rather and he should be considered King of the Fake News, take a look at the following three short videos sometime when time permits. The first is typically cleverly edited, and recent, cutting out when Lee Oswald begins pleading for legal representation at a midnight press conference:

The next one is the complete, unedited version showing Oswald repeatedly pleading for legal representation, which he never received [also never received is one phone call, which in his case, the telephone number went to his emergency CIA contact]:

The final one, is when Rather is much younger and he and only several others were permitted to view the Zapruder film of President Kennedy's assassination, and Rather proceeds to lie his butt off, claiming JFK's head snapped fowards, when years later the viewing public would finally view JFK's head snapping backwards from the front kill shot:

AND CONTRADICTING Rather's report:

[The same applies to Jim Lehrer and his fictional stories in the Dallas Morning News on the assassination, which is why Rather ended up as CBS anchor, and Lehrer ended up as PBS News Hour anchor!]

Upfront, I despise Dan Rather - - what real news story did he ever actually break??? NONE! /// the George W. Bush Air National Guard controversy, his coverage of the JFK assassination, \\\ Exactly, he never broke any news on the JFK assassination, never did any real reporting or journalism, never clued us in to the background of the Paines [Ruth and Michael], or anything else! Was so easily flummoxed on the false document, containing REAL information [old intel agency trick] but it was besides the point: the real story on Bush was that he never qualifed to be an officer - - never attended OTS; never qualified to be a pilot - - never attended flight school - - only attended enlisted basic training for five weeks in 1968! Rather, just like tall tale teller, Brian Williams, was a fraud and a farce! With all the people on Rather's staff, with the money he was paid every year - - he was incapable of any real reportage. Rather abysmal . . .
