This is a story of Nikkei children living in the post-war era in an internment camp town of Greenwood, British Columbia. These "Hanatare Bozu" children of the '50s lived in much simpler times when they had to explore and utilzie resources around town to create new games. The Nikkei parents with large families could not afford to buy toys for every child, therefore the children scoured the countryside by recycling and re-using scraps to make their own toys. Greenwood provided such a fantastic, natural playground for the children because the mountains, creek, ponds, unpaved roads, old mines and the sawmill offered unlimited play activities.
