'The Infernals' is an amazing follow-up to the first Samuel Johnson tale 'The Gates'. It switches from eccentric and hilarious to deep and haunting, and is brilliant all throughout.

Favorite character: Nurd

The dwarves alone are worth the reading. The entire cast of characters are indelibly stamped on my memory. Connolly understands human nature, especially the stupidity and capacity for self delusion of adults (see the scientists). There is real sadness to leaven the story and keep it from utter silliness as well as love and the beauty of friendship. I highly recommend this to adults and young readers.

Most people will spend their lives doing jobs that they don’t particularly enjoy, and will eventually save up enough money to stop doing those jobs just in time to start dying instead. Don’t be one of those people. There’s a difference between living, and just surviving. Do something that you love, and find someone to love who loves that you love what you do.
It really is that simple.
And that hard.
