“The furnishings of France enchant the eye, Italian pieces sing to the soul.” —Betty Lou Phillips, ASID

France and Italy have long been the go-to spots for fashionistas, serious foodies and design mavens. Rich patinas, satisfying earthen hues and myriad natural materials—translate into timeless, unabashedly elegant yet livable rooms appropriate for our times. Award-winning designer Betty Lou Phillips shows how the best from two European countries combine to create la dolce vita—the good life.

What I would call "decorator porn". New York trendy decorators "staging" rooms in what they think is 'fashion-forward" French or Italian decor. Examples, a very nice carved wood bench with with the seat covered in a bright sixties-coloured print standing on a shag rug. Or a great quality English porters chair covered in a hot pink, black lace pattern for a bedroom. It is very telling that the back has a long list of decorating businesses where you can buy the pieces.
