A richly imagined new novel about a young woman who leaves the dusty farmland of 1960s Oklahoma to follow her husband to the oil fields of Saudi Arabia. Gin suddenly has the life she's only read about. But when a young Bedouin woman is found dead in the bay, Gin's world closes in around her and the one person she trusts is nowhere to be found. Set in a gorgeously etched desert landscape, this is an enthralling novel of greed and deceit.

This is a good book in terms of seeing the culture of another country. It captures the time and place quite well. I wasn't as crazy about the writing style. I found transitions in the storyline to be abrupt and awkward.

A really interesting and suspenseful book of a woman and her experiences of Saudi Arabia in the 1960s. Oil, greed, the role of women, murder and loss. It is all here!

I loved this book, especially the writing style, it was continuous and never too descriptive. In terms of plot I really enjoyed it and was very sad at the end and troubled for the main character. A good level of suspense too.

I really enjoyed this book, and felt that the writing was really good without drawing attention to itself.

Poignant story of a young woman who escapes a repressive and patriarchal society in Oklahoma, only to find herself bound by the laws of another such culture in Saudi Arabia. ..beautifully drawn characters and gorgeous prose.
