I'm a big fan of John RIngo's work, but this book utterly fails to be worthy of him. It's clear that his coauthor did all the heavy lifting and just wasn't up to the task. Favorite characters seem like caricatures of the people we saw in previous volumes.

I'd been looking forward to the next book in this series - wow, what a disappointment! While it has Ringo's name on it, I'd say that's all he added to this book.

It reads like someone has taken Ringo's established characters and is doing their own thing with them, totally out of character. Mike is a complete pushover in this book, everything happens too easily, and when I got to the last 'battle', I kept waiting for the exciting bit to happen... and the book does a 'fade to black' for the actual battle scenes!

And I'm sorry, but neither Mike nor Katya figures out that they have an enemy agent on board? Not even after they've both spoken / interrogated her a few times?

This is how I'd sum up this book: Mike sees a bad guy with a bigger boat, finds a way to kill him, then takes his boat. That's pretty much all that really happens.

The quality of this book just plain sucks.

I notice the same right wing agenda also with regard to Ringo but he does make a crack about himmler the ss nazi smiling in his bear at the wipiing out of the Darhel. then there is the use of SS men former Nazis to fight the posleen in the Hell's faire posleen series.
of course the book a desert called peace another of his was meant to be unsettling..from the cover would say resembles an alternate history or viking genre fiction book.

My bad!!! It is THIS book that was Book 6 of the Series and not Unto The Breach!!! Still, the same concerns and problems exist... only even more so when it comes to the plot believe ability of this series (*)

It is also incredibly bad! Even though it appears that Ringo "outlined" this book 6 of the Paladin (Kildar) Series and it was fleshed out by the co-author, it clearly bares Ringo's personal stamp - and he claims top billing as THE author.

Please check out comments from "Unto the Breach" for comments of review that would apply here.

Also I find it so interesting that Ringo is Far Right Wing Conservative ONLY in those areas that he personally favors while being EXTREMELY non Conservative - at least I hope that real Conservatives don't believe in his perversions as shown in his personally written books - in his personal beliefs that are truly perverse as shown. One must read his Paladin series (Kildar series) of books that start with Ghost. Also, so reader KNOWS that these are his beliefs, check him out under Wiki and look up his Works and find the Paladin Series and see what his publisher says about why Ringo wrote this

For example it is filled with not just sex (I am an adult and have no problem with consensual adult sex), but constant examples of perverted sex (just as one example from book 3 of series, where "Kildar" gets an erection when a nude 12-yr old girl - a child - is forced to sit on his lap while he is negotiating buying her from a couple sex slave traders and he becomes aroused at thinking of the rape and abuse that she was put through -- as that is the way HIS feelings are.

Some additional points: Throughout this series (and this is Military Fiction, NOT Sci-Fi, and deals with the current geo-political overall environment, not some thousands of years away inter-galactic war). Yet book by book - excepting Book 2 - the plots get more and more improbable to simply impossible! Even in Book 1, the character kills bin Laden (actually done by a TEAM of Navy SEALs and attached Support in 2011 under orders of President Obama!) and kills Syrian President Assad (who is still alive and in charge of Syria during a civil war going on there for months and months against the SRA) and, having discovered a chemical weapons RESEARCH lab, the U.S. then hitting that site with a tactical nuke (although the US military and Intell Services knew - and knew back then for years and years PRIOR to that time period - that Syria in fact had warehouses stockpiled with functional chemical weapon warheads - artillery shells, aircraft bombs and SCUD-missile type warheads!)

Finally, for an ex-military he disturbingly makes numerous errors in military weaponry. The Skorpion SMG, sniper rifles, mortars, etc.
