Merlin taught King Arthur well. He establishes the perfect kingdom of Camelot, the best knights in the world at the Round Table, and even finds himself a kind, loving wife in Queen Guenevere. Then, along comes the French knight, Lancelot. At first hated by all, he eventually proves himself and becomes the King's best friend and the best knight of the Round Table. He also becomes the Queen's lover, no matter how guilty both feel. Alas, Camelot cannot last. For Mordred, the king's treacherous illegitimate son, catches on, and works to undo everything Arthur worked for.

May not be the best Lerner and Loewe musical but there are a couple of songs that stand out and my favorite is "If Ever I would Leave You." It should be canonized as one of the tops songs culled from a musical. Franco Nero cemented his name in Hollywood here after his spaghetti western fame. And I presume this is where he and Vanessa Redgrave started their love affair that blossomed into the birth of a son 2 years after this movie. I wasn't that interested in the story nor the performances to watch it. I was just after the songs since I consider these composer-lyricist team one of the best tandem in musical history.

The sound of people speaking or singing does not work but you can hear the chorus singing. I am not sure how this is happening but the DVD is broken.
