Dyamonde has her eyes on a pair of red sneakers. A girl at school suggests that she just tell her mother that she needs them. Dyamonde isn't sure this technique will work but gives it a try and, of course, it fails. Dyamonde is angry at her mom and her mom finds a creative way to teach Dyamonde a lesson about the difference between need and want: all of Dyamonde's clothes disappear except for some jammies and the clothes she wore that day! "Almost Zero" is a gentle, teaching story with a satisfying outcome, good for grades 2-4.
