I rented this book at the library yesterday (May 11, 2016). I am always looking to learn new social media tips, especially when they revolve around networking and job hunting. Was interested in seeing if this book offered anything new or unique. Unfortunately, it wasn't quite what I was looking for, but it still has its moments.

It must be rough to write a reference book for social media or technology in general, because most of the time, within a year or two, it becomes dated and irrelevant. This book unfortunately met the same fate.

I'm very tech-savvy and have been doing social media for many years now, so I mostly skimmed through the book, as I know 95% of the skills/tips/tools they had recommended. It never hurts to brush up on my LinkedIn basics. However, a lot of the features and tools they recommend is no longer around, due to LinkedIn updates. The book still gave me the inspiration and drive to use LinkedIn a lot more. For the past year, I haven't been using it as much. The book at least got me back into the LinkedIn "mindset" again.

Part 2 was pretty unnecessary. I honestly didn't really bother with it. We all know what happened to Google+. One thing that was interesting to me was realizing how much social media has changed in 3 years. I mean, it was before Vine and Periscope!

I recommend this book to anyone who has never used LinkedIn, especially older adults and even college students, or those who are unaware of the benefits of LinkedIn or how to use it to their advantage. It lays out the steps on how to create a profile, do recommendations, creating a headline, etc. It's a great resource for those just started out on LinkedIn. While some of the tools/features are outdated, the foundation is still useful and practical, and the job hunting tips and methods are still very relevant, which makes this book still worth checking out. 2 years ago, I think this book would have been extremely useful to me. I had to learn most of LinkedIn on my own, through trial and error.

Could use an update badly (I'm sure there is one, but my library didn't have the recent edition). Still glad I gave it a read (or in my case a skim).

Its a great book and they did a great update. The only problem is I can never renew it as someone always wants it!
