Not until recently (when I accidentally came across this book) - Had I ever known that the renowned author of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings", J.R.R. Tolkien was, indeed, something of a graphic artist and illustrator, as well.

Meticulously compiled by Wayne Hammond and Christina Scull - This fine book thoroughly explores Tolkien's artwork, from his childhood paintings and drawings to his final sketches.

This glossy volume also includes 100 reproductions of Tolkien's work, many in colour and over half published here for the very first time.

(*Trivia note*) - Tolkien's initials J.R.R. stand for John Roland Reuel.

Tolkien died in 1973 at the age of 81.
