An interesting idea: using the diaries of a recently deceased man to create a computer program that can pass as human in its communication, and use the son of the deceased to shape the program. This part is interesting, but the greater part of the book deals with that son's failed marriage, various sexual daliances, and nonstop self-recriminations. That part stinks, and if this is the new California lifestyle, I'm never leaving Cleveland.
