Nice follow up to season one > continues the story of revenge and freedom but its missing one element and that is the late Andy Whitfield as Spartacus, who was truly a great actor and gave a performance for a lifetime in the first season. He added heart and inner gravity to the role that cant be replaced. Truly missed!!!! a tragedy. The fight scenes are done well if a bit over the top and dialogue is sometimes stiff but still entertaining to watch. Viva Bianca is always beautiful and especially good in her role as Ilythia. Worth watching again if you have seen it before. Well done ~ 420

The story and cinematography improve in this second season.

Awesome production values, lurid and lovely sex, slow motion blood splattering everywhere ! An entertaining and creative use of some bare historical facts. A great escape to a mythic era,.. that actually happened !

Season "Two" of the series begins almost immediately after the massacre at Batiatus' Ludus. The slave survivors need to recruit more numbers if they are to survive, while Glaber and his wife Ilythia are charged with brings Spartacus and his rebels down. Lucretia, violently stabbed at the end of season 1, somehow managed to survive, and spends most of the season manipulating others towards her own mysterious ends. Not for the faint of heart, but if you enjoy lot's of sex and extremely bloody and violent scenes, this series doesn't disappoint. My main quibble is the dialogue the actors are forced to speak. It is very affected and "proper", but since this isn't Shakespeare, no need to pretend it is.

I did find this season entertaining, but not as much so as the other two. The sex scenes seemed as graphic, if not more so. The violence and the gore seemed as graphic, if not more. The acting was pretty much on par with the other seasons. The plot was decent. Maybe all the excess is just getting redundant. The new Spartacus is terrible, too. He needs to hit the gym for one (hey the guy looks better than me, but I'm not portraying a Roman gladiator!) and he just isn't as charismatic as either the old Spartacus (R.I.P.) OR Gannicus. He also seems to be less skilled with the choreographed fight scenes. I will likely watch the final season when it comes out, but I am not expecting as much from it. All that being said, it is still a great violent, erotic waste of ones time.
