Along with 'If I Should Fall From Grace With God', this is one of two truly great albums by the Pogues. Shane McGowan came into his voice as a songwriter here, channeling melodies that sound like old Irish folk fused with punk fervor and somehow, who know how, he makes it authentic. The band is astoundingly tight, holding McGowan up and propelling him along. If 'A Pair of Brown Eyes' doesn't break your heart, you don't have one; if 'Sally MacLennane' or 'Billy's Bones' don't light up your spirit, you don't have one of those either.

Fun contemporary (2004) Irish folk music - with distinct bar flavor.

I'd rather listen to our own boys, e.g. Great Big Sea.
