This is a 1935 American period drama directed by Howard Hawks.
Shot in black-and-white and set in San Francisco during the Gold Rush era, the film combines elements of crime, Western, melodrama and adventure genres.
Edward G. Robinson plays a bad guy.
Robinson acts superbly whenever he plays a bad guy.
You would love to hate him as I did.
Miriam Hopkins takes the leading role as Mary 'Swan' Rutledge.
It is one of heart-wrenching yet heart-warming-at-end entertaining pieces with twists and turns.
