Wickham knows pple aren't reading her to get a deep literary experience, so she keeps it light and it doesn't try to deliver anything but an easy read. Not the funniest chicklit I've ever read, but the characters were easy to care for (altho they're not very original) and it moved along at a good pace. Enjoyable.

This was my first Wickham novel, so I wasn't sure what to expect after falling in love with her Shopaholic series (written under her other name). However, once I got used to the more serious tone, I really enjoyed the book. There are still some good laughs or chuckles, but it's a more grounded and realistic read. Just different a different style, not better or worse than the Sophie Kinsella novels, but still a good read.

One of Wickham's better novels.

Two of three storylines were good. Great character development. The main storyline was a bit weak.

The novel got off to a rocky start with some uncomfortable writing techniques. With a few slip ups along the way Madeleine Wickham found a solid routine to stick with. For me what made my rating as high as it is is the classic draw of a chick lit, the one that makes you mad when the author draws out the ending and laugh and smile at the relationships and witticisms.

At the first of every month, when the office has reached its pinnacle of hysteria, Maggie, Roxanne, and Candice meet at London's swankiest bar for an evening of cocktails and gossip. Here, they chat about what's new at The Londoner, the glossy fashion magazine where they all work, and everything else that's going on in their lives. Or almost everything. Beneath the girl talk and the laughter, each of the three has a secret. And when a chance encounter at the cocktail bar sets in motion an extraordinary chain of events, each one will find her biggest secret revealed.
