At the siege of Fort William Henry during the French and Indian War, Hawkeye, a colonial frontier scout, becomes a reluctant hero when he is assigned to escort the fort commander's two daughters through hostile Indian territory. Many dangers lurk in the wilderness, particularly a bloodthirsty Huron warrior named Magua who is on their tail and ready to attack.

IMHO, this film with Randolph Scott (released in 1936) is significantly better than the remake with Daniel Day-Lewis (released in 1992). The 1992 remake is too dark and gloomy with respect to lighting intensity.

I would rate the 1936 film at 4.0 stars.

A well done adaption of the French/Indian war on America. As the others have said it has a good action/romance feel to it. The acting is well done, the capture of the time period is also well done and the filmography of the scenery is awesome!
