When Miss Annis Wychwood offers sanctuary to the very young runaway heiress Miss Lucilla Carleton, no one at all thinks this is a good idea. With the exception of Miss Carleton's overbearing guardian, Mr. Oliver Carleton, whose reputation as the rudest man in London precedes him. Outrageous as he is, the charming Annis ends up finding him absolutely irresistible.

I like Georgette Heyer's books but this one isn't my favourite. I found it hard to like Oliver Carleton. However, I think Annis is a really great character. She's smart, witty, independent, but believable. Her internal struggles about her annoying cousin, her family, and Oliver all seem very real. I recommend this book for people who like strong heroines in a Regency world.
