At first, I thought that the “Almost Identical” book series was simple and a bit below my reading skills. However, the summary of the first novel itself unusually grasped my interest as I don’t often read fiction books with a storyline directly about the main characters’ lives. Although I found the plot to be a bit basic, the focus that Lin Oliver directed at the close but complicated relationship between the two main characters, twin sisters Sammie and Charlie, brought originality and a realistic sense of how siblings grow apart for a variety of different reasons. For instance, in “Two-Faced”, Charlie helped a popular student cheat on a test and Sammie was framed for it, which then set up an internal test to see exactly how far the set of twins would go to properly maintain a healthy relationship alone and with others. Told in Charlie’s blurry view of the situation, this heartwarming and meaningful novel is certain to help young readers set aside previous experiences and become understanding of the fact that there are always going to be controversial factors to each side of a story.
