Bonnie and Clyde, they thought. And what's-his-name, the sidekick. Three teenagers with dead-end lives, and chips on their shoulders, and guns. The first person they killed was a highway patrolman. The second was a woman during a robbery. Then, hell, why not keep on going? As their crime spree cuts a swath through rural Minnesota, some of it captured on the killers' cell phones and sent to a local television station, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension investigator Virgil Flowers joins the growing army of cops trying to run them down. But even he doesn't realize what's about to happen next.

I doubt the author could make up these plots. I greatly fear they are suggested by actual events then made "colorful" and plot twists added. I know that is what authors are supposed to do-keep those readers interested and on the edge of their seats. If I had a cop working for me that kept getting beat up because he doesn't like to carry a gun I would find him another line of work-behind a desk.

Always a pleasure to spend a day with Virgil Flowers. I had a hard time getting started on this, then I looked at the dedication. Sanford let a friend "co-write" this installment. Once I understood that, I just got on with the story and it turned out to be not bad at all. Just not what I have come to expect.

This won't be for everyone, mad dog killers are not a fun group. How old Virgil goes after them is somewhat original. I am getting the feeling the author doesn't particularly like the Sheriffs/deputies of rural Minnesota.

Partner or no, Sanford and Virgil are at their prime. Ah, poop! How do I add 6 stars?!

Perhaps not the strongest of the series, but the sympathetic portrayal of the loser killers was nicely done. I'm a little curious about the nature of the collaborative writing process mentioned in a note at the beginning of the book. "Sandford" evidently has a partner of some kind in producing these books.
