The largest public hospital in New York City, Bellevue serves everyone from UN diplomats to illegal Fukinese immigrants, Park Avenue bluebloods to Riker's Island inmates. It is both a microcosm of the world and a bellwether for the country. Dr. Eric Manheimer, the hospital's longtime medical director, offers a look inside this legendary institution through twelve stories, each its own self-contained medical drama - including his own.

I read this book before diving into the New Amsterdam TV show and thought of it more as a collection of essays to enjoy on their own vs. a continuing story. I enjoyed seeing the "behind the scenes" of a large public hospital, and some of the humanity that goes into the "business" decisions made each day therein.

I read this years ago and loved it. New Amsterdam is a top notch medical drama, probably the best I've ever seen besides E.R. in it's day..
Also highly recommend WEEKENDS AT BELLEVUE by Julie Holland😊

I read this book because of my interest in the tv series New Amsterdam. I enjoyed this book very much and would highly recommend it for any one who is interested in medicine. The inside workings of a hospital and the staff that manage it is well travelled in this book. It puts a human element to all that goes on. One quote by Dr. Eric Manheimer I loved was "the sign of maturity for a health care provider is when the humanity of the people that walk through our doors becomes part of our own." This says it all treat others as you would have them treat you.

I was fascinated with Dr. Manheimer's description of these cases . A very interesting book .
