Add a CommentThis book changed my life. I found a facilitator doing this method, did a program with them and have never looked back. Not only did the facilitator explain to me why I could not read or focus, but more importantly they showed me how I could. If you or your child have any kind of LD/dyslexia I hope you will contact a Davis facilitator and get the help you need.
This book is not rooted in brain science. Do not read this book to learn more about how to help those with dyslexia. The methods presented are not research based, and are not recommend by the International Dyslexia Association. Please be aware that this method will NOT teach your dyslexic child how to read, write or spell.
So the reviews seem to be pretty sharply divided on this book. As an elementary school teacher who knew NOTHING about dyslexia, I can say that even if a majority of the information in this book is incomplete/not strictly backed by research, it has helped me get a clearer picture of what's happening to some of my students. I cringe when facts are given without attribution, but regardless, this book filled a huge gap in my knowledge, and now I feel as though I have at least a base of information to move forward from.
very interesting (and different) approach to interventions for dyslexic readers. The program is more involved than what appears in the book. Demonstration by a user of the Davis Method was EXTREMELY helpful in understanding the process. Keep in mind that 'release' appears to be a similarity to yoga prior to participation in a program that induces stress.
