Sophisticated and unique, this comedy centers on novelist Hank Moody (David Duchovny) who struggles to raise his 13-year-old daughter, while still carrying a torch for his ex-girlfriend. His obsession with truth-telling and self destructive behavior -- drinks drugs and relationships -- are both destroying and enriching to his career.

Nice to see a come back role of Lew Ashby in the season. As with all the other seasons of Californication, I loved this... However I really thought it was curtains for Hank at the end. Was he doomed by ex-lover Carrie to commit double suicide by drinking the drug overdosed whiskey she tricked him into having "one last drink" with her?? As they are both succumbed to the effects, Carrie is overtop of Hank, pinning him down repeatedly demanding he say he loves her. Just as Hank blacks out he sees not Carrie but Karen looking down on him and he says "I love you"... {fade out}. But there are two more seasons so Hank must have survived somehow and lives to cause more shenanigans that hurt and distance the two loves of his life, his daughter Becca and Baby Mama Karen. Can't wait to see how he was possibly revived in Season Six!

Another great season.More laughs, a few touching moments, but this series has established a repetitive pattern whilst concluding each season.
I'm sure it'll be an easy guess how the series conclusion plays out.

At the beginning of the fifth season of Californication two years have passed and Hank is still living in New York City. When Hank breaks up with his girlfriend he believes it might be a good idea to get out of town. An offer from Charlie puts Hank on a plane headed for Hollywood. Once there it doesn't take long for Hank to get into all kinds of strange and dangerous situations. Becca has found a new boyfriend much to the chagrin of Hank. Both Hank and Charlie experience woman problems due mainly to their obnoxious behavior. The fifth season of Californication has a cliffhanger ending when Hank's old girlfriend arrives in Los Angeles.
