The year is 1985, and twenty-two-year-old Galen, a New Age believer, lives with his emotionally dependent mother in a suburb of Sacramento, surviving on the family trust fund--old money that his aunt and seventeen-year-old cousin are determined to get their hands on. When the family takes a trip to a cabin near South Lake Tahoe, tensions cause Galen to discover the shocking truth of just how far he will go to attain the transcendence he craves.

A sad story, good writing. Not for everyone.

Well, there's several hours of my life that I can never get back. I'd be more inclined to believe that the emotionally stunted young man, Galen, had been reading "The Shining" rather than "Jonathan Livingston Seagull" and the Buddha. There is no "fun" in this disfunctional family. I did not enjoy the writing style either; I just thought the author was too lazy to use quotation marks.
