Fully half of this volume is devoted to the conclusion of "The Winning of Aleta," the two-year epic in which Valiant first hates Aleta, thinking she was responsible for the deaths of his sailing comrades. He kidnaps the beautiful Queen and drags her through the capitals of his world, while slowing falling in love with her. Then in "War in the Forest," Val is sent out to spy on encroaching Saxons -- unknowingly aided by a disguised Aleta. Plus a gallery of Foster illustration work, and an introduction by P. Craig Russell.

Volume Five of the hardcover series, "The Winning of Aleta", starts with Prince Valiant kidnapping Aleta from her own throne room. He is suffering from a head injury, and is mad from fever and grief. Once his fever leaves him, they fall in love with each other. Their newfound love is interrupted by a warlord who steals Aleta for his harem. But Valiant quickly pursues and lays siege to his walled city to get her back. Fun.
