I loved this audio book. I agree that there are numerous characters but the narration is so well done that it is a joy to listen to. I havent finished listening yet but i am 80% complete and I am really in to this book. James Lee Burke is exceptional in character development and painting the landscape. Great audio for a long car trip or a summer vacation.

So disappointed you purchased the abridged version. This author is possibly one of the top 3.
