This book has some helpful little tidbits and truly good suggestions. I appreciated the laundry lists of organic foods to choose from (even as I wondered if they got paid for mentioning specific brands), and the idea of eating fruit before the rest of the meal. Other “helpful” tips seemed—to me at least—downright bizarre. Apparently it is impossible to be healthy and skinny unless you are a vegan. And nursing babies do not cry because they are hungry. They cry because they are addicts hooked on the “pleasurable sensations” they get from their mother’s breast milk. And I could not stand the writing style. Yes, Freedman and Barnouin are celebrated for their no-nonsense attitude, but it seems to me like they confused “no nonsense” with “crude.” Aside from the liberal use of offensive language, they also warn that “eating onions and garlic will make you smell like someone took a shit down your throat” and enthusiastically endorse several foods that “taste so good your pubes will fall out.” Like I said though, there are some helpful ideas in this book…but it seems you have to wade through an awful to find them.
