Of the three novels in the "cemetery of lost books" series, this is the weakest, imo. there isn't much in the way of plot.... it is basically a memoir of Fermin and it helps fill in some gaps, to tie the first two novels together a little more. In other carlos ruiz zafron novels, I feel like there is a little "gem" on every page; a quotation that makes me laugh or a clever insight, expressed perfectly. This novel had far fewer "gems". It also lacked the gothic, mysterious atmosphere of the other books. Although it is better than a lot of the fare out there right now, it isn't to the same standard of the other novels. Disappointing.
