I'm a fan of Headful of Ghosts and especially Cabin at the End of the World (one of my all-time favorite apocalyptic novels), so I had high expectations for these stories. I found the collection uneven, to the point where I didn't finish one of the stories (the wordy, meandering "Notes from the Dog Walkers"). Most were pretty good, all were very imaginative, and a couple were superb and are totally stuck in my head: the title story and a deceptively simply one called "It's Against the Law to Feed the Ducks." Tremblay adds notes to some of the stories at the end of the book, which are interesting glimpses into his thoughts and craft.
