Research objectives were to develop in-situ visual methods to assess inshore (benthic) rockfish stocks and initiate ecosystem assessment research by investigating links between Bowie Seamount & Queen Charlotte rockfish populations & ocean environments and the influences of large ocean transport mechanisms. Operations included the use of a submersible to enumerate benthic rockfish & their habitat along transects and longline surveys to evaluate catch rates in relation to visual abundance estimates. Other data collected include rock samples from the submersible, biological & fish health samples from the longline catch, and marine seabird & mammal observations.
